Ruth joined Chambers in 2026 upon completion of her pupillage with Mr Eugene Yim SC, Ms Jolie Chao, Mr Vincent S.K. Chen, and Mr Vincent C.C. Chan. Her pupillage afforded her exposure to a broad range of contentious work spanning civil, family and criminal matters, and laid a strong foundation for her developing practice at the Bar.

Ruth obtained both her Bachelor of Laws and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong. During her undergraduate studies, she was awarded the Holman Fenwick Willan Law Prize in Law of Contract I & II, reflecting her strong grounding in the law of obligations — an area of particular relevance to her current practice. She also served the student community as General Secretary of the Law Association.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Ruth gained practical legal experience in both private practice and in-house settings. She worked as a Paralegal at Carlsberg Brewery Hong Kong Limited, where she assisted in-house counsel with general corporate work, ongoing legal matters and dispute proceedings, reviewed and drafted commercial contracts, attended commercial discussions, and maintained company records and legal documentation. She further supplemented her training through marshalling exercises at the High Court with the retired Master Doris To and at the Family Court with the retired Family Judge Sharon Melloy, during which she studied case papers and the issues raised in advance of hearings, and benefited from in-depth discussions with the bench on points of substantive law, procedure and judicial reasoning across a wide spectrum of civil, matrimonial and insolvency proceedings.

Ruth also spent a summer at a local family law firm, during which she had the valuable opportunity to attend client meetings on her own, directly take instructions from clients and draft pleadings for matrimonial cases concerning both financial and children matters.

Ruth is developing a broad civil and criminal practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work.  Her principal areas of interest include contract, land, probate and family/matrimonial matters, encompassing ancillary/financial relief, children welfare arrangement, and applications for provision for family and dependents.

Ruth is fluent in English, Cantonese and Putonghua, and is capable of providing legal services in all three languages. Ruth handles her cases with a compassionate and an empathetic client-centered approach, ensuring that each matter is handled with care, diligence and a careful understanding of her clients’ concerns.
