Shirley is a dynamic legal professional with a distinctive combination of skills in accounting, finance, banking compliance, and legal practice. She completed her pupillage with Mr Selwyn Yu S.C., Mr Victor Luk, Mr Victor Gidwani, and Mr Tony Ko. With over a decade of experience across accounting, finance and banking industries, Shirley brings a strategic and holistic approach to her legal career.
Shirley’s professional journey began at KPMG, one of the 'big four' global accountancy firms, where she worked as an external auditor. Her role involved auditing listed companies and reviewing public announcements. This work experience provided Shirley with a solid foundation in financial regulations and corporate governance. Shirley also gained experience in pre-IPO and M&A due diligence. She attained a Certified Public Accountant Qualification in 2010.
Following her tenure at KPMG, Shirley joined HSBC, where she initially worked in OTC Derivatives Trading in the Global Banking and Markets Division. Her transition to the Regulatory Compliance Department allowed her to specialise in Market Misconduct Surveillance. These experiences gave Shirley concrete financial product knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance issues. Shirley also gained experience in dealing with financial regulators.
Shirley’s multifaceted experience across sectors of accounting, financial regulations and banking compliance allows her to navigate complex legal issues with confidence and expertise: -
Shirley is developing a broad civil and criminal practice and accepts instructions in all work areas. Shirley is fluent in Mandarin and capable of providing written legal opinions in traditional and simplified Chinese.

As the sole advocate at trial, Shirley acted for the Defendant in resisting the enforcement of an agreement to sell her business based on undue influence. After a fund tracing exercise illustrated to the Court, the Defendant succeeded in her counterclaim of income wrongfully obtained by the Plaintiff after the business transfer date.
