Shirley completed her pupillage with Mr Selwyn Yu S.C., Mr Victor Luk, Mr Victor Gidwani and Mr Tony Ko.  Before joining the Bar, Shirley had over 10 years of experience in the Accounting, Finance, and Banking Compliance fields.  


After university graduation, Shirley joined KPMG, one of the Big Four Accountancy Firms worldwide, as an external auditor and obtained the professional qualification of Certified Public Accountant in 2010.  Shirley was mainly involved in Listed Companies’ Interim and Final Year Audit, and was engaged in auditing and preparing financial statements and reviewing relevant public announcements to be published on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s website.  Besides, Shirley had also been engaged in Special Project Audit, such as Pre-IPO and Merger and Acquisition Due Diligence. 


Shirley later joined HSBC’s Global Banking and Markets Division, she was responsible for managing over-the-counter foreign exchange and derivatives trading transactions. Shirley had also been positioned in Regulatory Compliance Department, specialising in Market Misconduct Surveillance, her then work areas covered surveillance monitoring over Trade Executions, E-communications and Audio Records of the traders. Shirley was also engaged in handling inquiries and preparing for self-reporting set out in paragraph 12.5 of the Code of Conduct for Persons Licensed by or Registered with the Securities and Futures Commission.


Shirley, by leveraging on her accounting and legal knowledge, had provided legal advice on fraud reporting pursuant to HKSA 240 The Auditor’s Responsibilities Relating to Fraud in an Audit of Financial Statements.


Shirley is developing a broad civil and criminal practice with a strong focus on litigation relating to accounting, banking, and regulatory background. Her professional accounting background and comprehensive work experience in banking and regulatory fields provide her with the ability in delivering sound and meticulous forensic analysis involved in complex commercial or financial cases.


Shirley had also been appointed by the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education as Part-Time Lecturer in Certificate in Legal Studies (Land Law and Conveyancing Module) and Part-Time Tutor in Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law, C.P.E of Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom (Law of Tort).


Shirley is proficient and can conduct cases in Chinese, English and Putonghua. She can also draft legal documents in English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

TransAsia Private Capital v Cheng Yu, [2022] HKCFI 1295 (HCA 598/2021)

Shirley, as the sole advocate representing the plaintiff in an interlocutory appeal, had successfully resisted the Set Aside Default Judgment Application in a liquidated claim of over US$14 million (approximately of over HK$107 million). Shirley was also representing the plaintiff in the court below.


TransAsia Private Capital v Gene Capital (China) Co., Limited (HCA 2026/2020)

Shirley, as the sole advocate representing the plaintiff, had successfully obtained Summary Judgment for an indebtedness over US$13 million (equivalent of over HK$100 million).


Medishine Investment Limited v Chiu Hon Ching [2021] HKCFI 2900 (HCA 640/2020)

Shirley (led by Mr. Lawrence Cheung) representing the defendant and had successfully opposed an O.14 appeal on debt repayment claim relying on the Audited Financial Statements.  


Tes Asia Pacific Limited v Ngai, Sau Ming, Tang, Leanne Lai Anh & Fin Leaf Wines Limited (HCA 50/ 2016)

Shirley, as the sole advocate representing the plaintiff, had successfully resisted the Strike Out Application taken out by the 1st defendant in a civil fraud and breach of director’s duties claim.
